an actor's and Director's guide to effective communication and maximized performance
In collaboration with NYS3, the Asheville School of Film is offering: Closing the Chasm in Front and Behind the Camera-
an Actor's and Director's Guide to Effective Communication and Maximized Performance, a weekend seminar held April 30th and May 1st, 2016, 10 am- 4 pm, featuring KELLY MCGILLIS. This workshop is geared for both actors and filmmakers, and will include practical scene performances and directing by participants. For student filmmakers, this class will provide an actor's perspective on crucial information for those who aspire to be future film directors. What is an actor having to do physically and mentally to prepare for their performance? What can you do to inspire them and achieve a better performance? How does stage performance differ from film performance? For actors, this class will provide a director's perspective on how and why they may ask for certain performances, including how some technical aspects of filmmaking relate to performance.
Learn to be a better and more well-rounded director OR actor, applicable in areas varying from commercial work to television and feature films! Registration is available on the following Form. Cost for the entire weekend is $295, and will be held at the Asheville School of Film. This seminar will be taught by a combination of faculty of NYS3 and ASoF, including Kelly McGillis. Kelly caught the world’s attention when she starred opposite Harrison Ford in the film “Witness,” playing the unforgettable role of the Amish widow, Rachel Lapp. This was soon followed by numerous other films, including “Top Gun,” opposite Tom Cruise and “The Accused” with Jodie Foster, as well as a long, prestigious live theatre acting career.
