This class answers the questions:
- How do I create characters that feel like real people?
- How do I get my character to write their own plot?
- Why do some stories linger forever in the hearts and minds of the audience, while others are so quickly forgotten?
- What are the elements of my story that really matter?
- How do I create an outline for long work that doesn’t stifle creativity?
- What draws audiences into my story and keeps them engaged?
- Does my story have to be a certain genre?
- Can I have multiple protagonists and point-of-view characters?
And speaks to the following concerns:
- I feel like outlining and structure just leads to formula.
- I’ve read books on plot and structure, but I can’t make sense of it.
- I’m good at getting things started, but then the story drifts and I tend to give up.
- I have strong beginnings and endings, but struggle to connect them.
- All of my characters just look and sound like me and my friends.
- Lots of cool things happen in my stories, but they don’t have depth.
- My worlds and characters are really compelling, but then they don’t do anything interesting.
- I make documentary or ‘true life’ films, but my stories are often dry.
- I have a general idea for my story, but while writing, I struggle with “what comes next?”
