Writing for the screen may be the most difficult form of creative writing. It demands all the skills of a poet, lyricist, novelist, and technical writer— not just to tell a story, but to draw the blueprint for a story experience!
Join local creative writer R. Lyon Bergh as (s)he leads students through Writing for the Screen. This 16 - week course is composed of two 8-week parts: Screenwriting 1 (Fundamentals) and Screenwriting 2 (Advanced Techniques).
Class meets weekly, with Screen 1 starting next on Sunday January 12th, 2025, 12 Noon- 2 pm. Contact us if you are interested/ready to join our next Screen 2 in 2025, date TBD.
During this course, Lyon will cover the basic functions and formatting of screenwriting, before moving into the craft of creating visual stories that powerfully speak to three audiences at once: the investors that produce the idea, the cast & crew that bring it to life, and, ultimately, the public paying to experience the final product.
Attendees should anticipate 1 - 4 hours of homework between sessions. Access to screenwriting software REQUIRED and should be acquired prior to the start of class. Final Draft is the recommended software, but lower-cost or cloud-based products such as Celtx or Writer Duet will suffice. This class is designed to teach technique and understanding for writing a feature on your own.
Cost:
$50 - Registration Fee
$75 - Late Registration Fee if within 2 weeks of the Start Date ($50 Standard Fee + $25 Late Surcharge)
$625 -16 Week Course Tuition ($500 for ALUMNI), a $125 savings, when paid in full prior to the start of class.
