The Art of Documentary
A Project-Based Documentary Course

This documentary course is for everyone who is ready to explore and learn how to create a documentary film.  The course will dive into the creative and business aspects of documentary filmmaking including; concept and story selection, writing a proposal, budgeting, pre-production planning, acquiring and licensing content, access to talent and locations, crew needs for studio or location production, editing and distribution. An emphasis will be placed on various documentary styles for creating a structure that will effectively tell the story.

For students without experience, it will serve as an entryway into the expressive world of non-fiction filmmaking. For those who are mid-project or have an early stage interest in a specific project, you will find answers to help you proceed. During the course you will collaborate in all phases of creating a documentary and will be recognized for your participation in the end credits.

A variety of documentary film excerpts will be screened in class.

The course will be taught by Curt Worden, a Director, Producer and two-time National Emmy Award Winning Director of Photography. The class will meet once a week for 8 weeks, 6:30-9:30 pm, starting Tuesday, July 23, 2019.
