Location Sound Recording - On a Budget

Picture
Not every film project has the luxury of a professional location sound team and top of the line equipment. Capturing clean and usable dialogue has been the downfall of many independent projects. Advances in technology have led to more affordable equipment and greater choices.

But what equipment will do the job without breaking the budget? Will an audio novice be able operate this gear to capture acceptable sound? Will the production have a crew member dedicated to sound or will the responsibilities be shared among the other crew?  Will post production be able to use the audio?

This workshop is designed to educate independent filmmakers, multimedia specialists and producers on the choice, use and selection of audio equipment. This will be a very hands-on class where students will be involved in multiple aspects of production sound.  Examples include eliminating time code, shooting a singe and double sound system, syncing and then listening  to the results using reference headsets.  Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment for demonstration, evaluation and optimization.

Cost for the workshop is $150, taught by professional Production Sound Mixer Sidney Williams, and be held from 9 am-4 pm, October 19th, 2016, and again 10 am- 5 pm, Sunday April 23rd, 2017.
