PLOT WRITING
Course

How to Plot Anything
Plot is the most underestimated of all the major story-telling skills... [most writers] think they’ll just figure it out when they get there—which of course never happens.” --John Truby, The Anatomy of Story

Most novelists, screenwriters, and filmmakers start with some strong story element— a compelling character, a gripping conflict, a sensational location... But none of these ideas are a story by themselves and, suddenly, the exciting potential of the blank white page can morph into a dark abyss of endless options.

Writer and filmmaker R. Lyon Bergh will discuss the questions and choices that are the keys to discovering a compelling and effective plot.

Many writing classes and books put a heavy emphasis on craftwork (style, formatting, dialog), genre rules, and beat structures. This course will focus on the story itself, while demystifying the process of plotting and giving participants the tools to transform any idea into a gripping plot— a survival guide for that dark abyss.

Plot Writing will be held weekly for 6 weeks, starting Tuesday, February 15th 2022, from 6-8 pm, and conducted online via Zoom.   A great compliment or precursor to our Screenwriting Course, this course is targeted to filmmakers and narrative writers of all mediums (novels, screenplays, creative nonfiction, etc).  We are offering this valuable Series for $475 ($380 for Alumni).     Registration (below) is REQUIRED, along with payment in full, or a $50 Deposit (with balance due prior to class) to receive your Zoom link.
