PLOT WRITING
WORKSHOP

Plot Writing Workshop

How to Plot Anything
Plot is the most underestimated of all the major story-telling skills... [most writers] think they’ll just figure it out when they get there—which of course never happens.” --John Truby, The Anatomy of Story

Most novelists, screenwriters, and filmmakers start with some strong story element— a compelling character, a gripping conflict, a sensational location... But none of these ideas are a story by themselves and, suddenly, the exciting potential of the blank white page can morph into a dark abyss of endless options.

Writer and filmmaker Richard L Bergh will discuss the questions and choices that are the keys to discovering a compelling and effective plot. Participants will craft a new plot from the ground up over the course of the lecture.

Many writing classes and books put a heavy emphasis on craftwork (style, formatting, dialog), genre rules, and beat structures. This workshop will focus on the story itself, with the majority of time dedicated to acquiring the tools necessary to ‘organically’ create a story that is unique to you. “HOW TO PLOT ANYTHING” is a one- day workshop designed to demystify the process of plotting and give participants the tools to transform any idea into a gripping plot— a survival guide for that dark abyss.

This workshop is targeted to filmmakers and narrative writers of all mediums (novels, screenplays, creative non-fiction, etc). Editors, producers, and actors are encouraged to attend as they are important participants in the storytelling process.
We are offering this unique and rare workshop COMPLIMENTARY (Donations Accepted), as both a Zoom meeting on  July 25th, 2020, 10 am- 4 pm, and repeating as an in-person, Socially-Distanced workshop on August 22nd, 2020, 10 am- 4 pm.  A lunch break from 1-2 pm will include an Q and A with the School Director, Brad Hoover, as well as a selection of student films.   Registration (below) is REQUIRED.  Donations may be made here.
