Shooting and Editing on Actual (Celluloid) Film Workshop
Have you ever wanted to shoot a film on actual celluloid film but thought you missed your chance? Despite film's rapid decline at the emergence of high quality digital camera systems, film is NOT DEAD! A number of high profile movies have been shot on film recently. In fact, the market is seeing somewhat of a resurgence in the use of film driven by professionals and independent artists who don't want to see the unique aesthetic qualities of the film image fade into history.
Now is your chance! The Asheville School of Film is offering this rare opportunity to shoot film, both 16mm and 35mm in our Shooting and Editing on Film Workshop. The first weekend, students will shoot a short project using professional Arriflex film cameras and Zeiss and Cooke lenses. The second weekend, students have the opportunity to edit that footage on a Steenbeck flat bed film editing machine. The process of shooting and editing on film affords participants a uniquely tactile perspective that can only make them a more thoughtful and creative filmmaker. Copies of the footage will also be distributed to each student as a digital file for home viewing.
The workshop, led by Brad Hoover and W.S. Pivetta, will begin April 2nd-3rd, 2016, 9 am- 4 pm, allowing film processing, development and return, and reconvene April 27th and 28th, 10 am- 5pm, for editing and post-production. Register early and submit a deposit 2 weeks prior to class to ensure class placement.
Tuition covers all camera and lighting equipment, editing equipment, film stock, processing and transfer.
If participating in only the Shooting class (Part 1) tuition will be $500;
if participating only in the Editing class (Part 2), tuition will be $350;
Cost for the entire workshop is a bundled price of $750. There will be a minimum student enrollment required.
